Spyker

Spyker is a car brand of Dutch origin. The Spyker name first appeared on the cars built by the Dutch Spijker company, which operated from 1880 to 1929. The company began to sell its models as Spijker, but renamed the marque to Spyker in 1903 in an effort to make it easier to pronounce for foreigners. The original company went out of business during the great depression. Spyker Cars N.V., founded 2000, acquired the brand rights and now produces hand-built cars in small series.

The Spyker name was also briefly seen in Formula 1 from late 2006 to the end of 2007. During the 2006 season, Spyker Cars bought the former Jordan Team (then called Midland F1), only to sell it after an unsuccessful 2007 race season to Force India. However, this venture did succeed in bringing mainstream attention to Spyker Cars.
